In photographic terms, dynamic range is used to describe the ratio between the maximum (white) and minimum (black) measurable light intensities. In nature photography, there are many subjects with a great difference between brightness and darkness, such as a bright sky against a dark sea. Such variation is difficult to achieve without an extended Dynamic Range as a narrow range causes over or under exposure.
The FinePix S100FS is the first digital camera with a closed-unit design to have an extended Dynamic Range, (100%, 200%, 400%), similar to that of negative film, thanks to the newly designed Super CCD sensor and processor combination.

VELVIA mode
By selecting the distinctive colour and saturation of Velvia, you can produce the vivid colours of nature with great sharpness and colour tone based on red and green.

This is a powerful mode for any subject. Produce the natural colours and standard tonal gradation of Provia film as trusted by professional photographers.
SOFT mode
Select this mode for soft, fine and smooth tonality that produces minute detail, true to the natural beauty of your subject.
Film simulation has also been combined with bracketing. Just one press of the shutter will take three images based on each type of film, allowing you to select and save the one you prefer. Only Fujifilm, with our knowledge of everything there is to know about film, could possibly develop this unique function.
An all-new 28mm wide-angle to 400mm telephoto zoom lens with Optical Image Stabilisation.
The FinePix S100FS incorporates a high-magnification 14.3x Fujinon zoom lens which covers a broad zoom range and also features a Super Macro setting for shots as close as 1cm from the subject. The flexibility within this lens and manual zoom means that precise framing of your subject has never been easier.
This model also features a new lens shift image stabilisation mechanism which uses a sensor to detect and compensate for vibration within the camera body.
Fujinon optics have an enviable reputation within the photography industry for their clarity and quality, and unlike interchangeable lenses, this one's fixed to the camera, so the interior will always be protected from dust and the elements.

Super CCD technology has long been associated with class-leading performance in Fujifilm’s top-end digital cameras. Unlike other image sensors, Super CCD is developed by Fujifilm, and maintains a high resolution with and superior light capture.
The new processor is able to read at high speed by the latest image processing technology. Parallel processing enables the creation of images with smooth tonal expression while maintaining high resolution and extended Dynamic Range.
This combination delivers impressive ISO capabilities of up to ISO 6400 (at 6 MP), and an incredible ISO 10,000 at 3 Megapixels, which offers incredible potential in low light conditions bringing you great, blur-free results.
The FinePix S100FS features three bracketing modes that are useful for high-level photography.
A single shutter release can take three consecutive shots so you can concentrate on getting the perfect shot, and decide later which image best captures the moment.
Film Simulation bracketing
Produces three images in Velvia, Provia and Soft modes.
Dynamic Range bracketing
Capture three images with alternative Dynamic Range settings of 100%, 200% and 400%.
AE bracketing
Continuous capture of three different exposures with a range of up to ±1.0EV.
Featuring a range of high-speed continuous shooting functions.
The new sensor and processor combination results in reliable high-speed performance; making it easy to shoot moving subjects such as pets, children and sports.
This feature allows high-speed shooting including up to 50 continuous shots at 7 frames/second at a resolution of 3 megapixels or 3 frames/second at the full 11.1 megapixels. When it comes to viewing your pictures, high-speed playback is possible at an amazing 10 frames/second.

The FinePix S100FS provides a choice of 14 different scene settings that upon selection, allow you to automatically optimise the shutter speed, exposure and white balance for many subject types. To name a few, you can choose from Nature (Soft and Vivid), Flower and Portrait modes to suit your scene or subject.
The FinePix S100FS also features two custom modes for you to save your own preferences for settings such as film simulation and dynamic range.
A range of high-speed, high-precision auto-focusing (AF) modes.
Featuring four AF modes of single AF, continuous AF, manual focus and one-push AF (for manual focus), the FinePix S100FS responds to any photographic condition, and provides high-speed auto focusing in low-light conditions, which has been difficult to achieve in other auto-focus cameras.
